Our group was very fortunate to enjoy the company of Irawan for the past four years. He sailed through his PhD Viva Voce interview and his name has been placed on the Dean’s list in recognition of the excellence of the thesis. This is awarded to very few people each year.

Irawan happily passed on his skills in ArcGIS and data management to incoming students, and was an outstanding mentor and leader in our group.

Now back home in Indonesia to a position at the Ministry of Environment and Forestry of Indonesia (MoEF), Irawan’s work (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.biocon.2018.03.037; https://doi.org/10.1016/j.biocon.2016.10.007), and his position in MoEF, set the stage for improved planning of marine conservation efforts in Indonesia based on the best availabkle scientific data.

Special thanks to Dinusha for organising the cake and Chhaya for photography!
